Quick PSA: Go check out Arena from the blog From a stranger to you for inspiring me to make this post. I’ve been reading the beautiful poems she writes and the deep meaning of her posts and have fallen in love. To put it simply; I wanted to copy. Haha, I’m just kidding; if I attempted to copy that eloquence I would fail miserably. BUT I decided I would like to attempt my own version of her style of art.
I love reading the type of posts that describe a memory with feeling and emotion. I love it when I can imagine myself in the exact scene described and I love it when it makes me feel nostalgic. I’m excited to share my loves with you guys so let’s go 🙂
Finneas is… unique and one of a kind. Yet, his music is the type that makes you feel nostalgic about something that never happened to you. If you don’t know who Finneas is, he’s the mastermind behind many of Billie Eilish’s hits and a skilled singer-songwriter himself. His pipes are to pine for. Finneas is… Finneas.
The first time I heard this song, I was sitting on the sand feeling the warmth of the sun on my back, catching up with some friends I hadn’t seen in over a year. The sky was blue and there were a few white puffy clouds decorating the sky. We were laying down just feeling the soft breeze and watching my good friend Ella laugh and do mermaid dives in the water. It just felt like one of those memories you never want to forget. Whenever I hear this song, I’ll forever be reminded of that moment.
Let’s fall in love for the night
And forget in the mornin’Finneas O’Connell
God, every time I hear him sing the lyric;
– “I’m the boy that your boy hoped that you would avoid” –
I get shivers. That beautiful jump is quite literally music to my ears. It gives me bliss. His voice is flawless and sends goosebumps up and down my arms every time without fail. It serenades me. If anyone is looking to sweep me off my feet and take me away ~ these vocals would raise your chances by 100%.
The above video is a clip from the Verizon PayItForward livestream. It’s the version with Billie adding harmonies and I personally like this version better than the one with just Finneas. Their voices compliment each other seamlessly; it helps that they’re siblings. I imagine walking home on the cramped streets of Shimizu while the sun sets and the leaves are falling from the trees in the nearby park. Catching a whiff of the neighborhood Korean barbeque shop while crossing the train tracks and twirling on the pavement just because I can.
My interpretation of the piece is pretty different from the lyrics but as I said, Finneas’ voice has the ability to make you nostalgic for just about anything.

Also known as David Timm, boy blue came up on my Spotify feed about a year ago and I’ve fallen in love with many of his songs. He’s a college student who produces all his pieces and it is quite impressive. His pieces are on SoundCloud and I’ve found a couple on YouTube.
the sun is creeping up on us so go on turn the music up
just stay with me.David Timm
My sister America and I listened to this song while heading to take some pictures a couple weekends ago. The sky in the direction we were heading was dark and full of storm clouds – we could see frequent streaks of lightning and curtains of rain dyed purple. We were worried the weather would cancel our mini photo shoot but decided to see how it turned out and went forward anyway. About 20 minutes later, just as this song started playing the sun peeked it’s head out above the clouds. Our photoshoot went well:)
i lost myself on a summer day
i was alone and it was years ago
but i was falling out of placeDavid Timm
This song makes me think of those warm nights last summer stargazing with my friends up on the soccer fields. We ate juicy red strawberries covered in chocolate as the sun set and laid down on mismatched blankets as the light disappeared. We laughed and shared secrets and the sound of cicadas drowned everything out but what was in the moment.
I wanna speak facts but I can barely breathe
I wanna bring myself out but I’m in too deepGabriela Bee
This might be my favorite post of all time on here… I hold these musicians and songs so close to my heart. I hope you get the chance to listen to them. Let me know where they transported you:)
I’ll be chilling over here, listening to Finneas and doing my best to play the ukulele singing his gorgeous lyrics. I’ll be imagining myself in the perfect paradise with the smell of summer flowers wafting through the air, my hair blowing in the wind.
